Exclusive to the British Museum: a mounted print based on the original, Louis Seize, Roi des Francais by Joseph Boze (1785-1792).

After a portrait by Boze executed in 1785 (see lettering on print by Henriquez after the same portrait, 1876,0708.71). This is an altered version of a plate engraved at an earlier date as a conventional portrait (c.1785/89; De Vinck 396); the added Phrygian cap and the last line of the lettered inscription, also a later addition, pointedly allude to the events that occured on 20 June 1792 when Louis XVI was forced to wear the cap following the invasion of the Tuileries palace.
