Mary Delany Christmas Cards

<p>A pack of eight Christmas cards with two images by Mary Grenville Delany; one design shows a posy containing Amaryllis and the other a posy containing Mistletoe. </p> <p>Mrs Mary Delany, a prestigious personality of the eighteenth century, is famous for her beautiful and elegant pictures of flowers, many made from hundreds of pieces of coloured paper and put together with skill and precision. Her remarkable series of flower collages were bequeathed to the British Museum by her descendant Lady Llanover in 1895.</p> <p>The message inside reads 'season's greetings'.</p>

Exclusive to the British Museum a pack of eight Christmas cards featuring designs based on the floral collage artwork of Mary Delany.

These beautiful cards include four each of two designs; a vibrant red amaryllis and a delicate white mistletoe. The message inside reads ‘Seasons Greetings’.

Mary Delany (1700-1788) is renowned for her exquisite botanical collages. Delany mastered the art of imitating flowers by using tiny pieces of paper to build up her intricate “mosaicks”. She began creating her incredible artwork at the tender age of 72 and went on to produce nearly a thousand pieces.

Many of Mrs. Delany’s collages are now housed in the Prints and Drawings department at the British Museum, having been bequeathed in 1897 by Mary’s grand-niece Augusta Hall.
