Athenian Owl Necklace
Designed exclusively for the British Museum, a handmade sterling silver pendant necklace inspired by a Greek owl.
This elegant necklace has been hand-crafted in Scotland using traditional silver-smithing techniques.
The charm is based on coin from Athens in ancient Greece, a large collection of which are held in the British Museum’s collection. From the late 6th century BC, the design of Athenian coins was standardised to depict the goddess Athena and her sacred bird, the owl. This pendant is an interpretation of an owl taken from a silver tetradrachm from Athens, dated to the 5th century BC.
A beautiful gift inspired by the Museum’s Greek galleries.
