Papyrus of Ani, Frame 37; Egypt
Frame 37 of a papyrus which illustrates chapters 185 and 186 of the Book of the Dead of Ani, 1250 BC, Egypt. This is the last frame of the funerary papyrus depicting the falcon-headed god Sokar-Osiris, which belongs with the text of Spell 185 on the previous sheet. The remainder of the image shows an offering made to the hippopotamus deity Opet, who holds the symbols of life and flame for the deceased. To the right Hathor emerges from the mountains of the West into the marshes of the valley.
