The Parthenon Temple was dedicated to Athene Parthenos, the warrior-goddess and protectress of Athens. This reduced-size copy of one of the panels from around the colonnade was modelled in the 19th century and retains all the liveliness of the original.

Exclusive to the British Museum, a replica of one of the horsemen friezes from the incredible Parthenon Temple.

Crafted from resin and skilfully finished, this panel shows two mounted horsemen taking part in a procession to honour the Greek goddess Athena. The replica has been cast from a reduced size 19th century copy of the original frieze, which was part of a series of horsemen images that ran all the way around the Parthenon.

The artistic genius of Athens in the 5th century BC reached its peak with the sculptures of the Parthenon. Designed by Pheidas and carved by a team of anonymous masons, the Parthenon, built on the Acropolis, presents a vision of Athens as the centre of the cosmos. The Parthenon was built nearly 2,500 years ago as a temple dedicated to the city’s patron and namesake, Athena.

An extraordinary piece, perfect for any history lover.
