Pearl Lotus Necklace

This necklace forms part of a range accompanying the British Museum exhibition Feminine power: the divine to the demonic.

The necklace is made from white rice pearls of varying sizes with interspersing brass rings, a central brass lotus flower pendant, and is finished with a gold-plated magnetic ball clasp.

The lotus flower, also known as the water lily, is the national flower of India, and is a fundamental symbol in Buddhist culture. The white petals of the flower are associated with purity and spiritual ascension of mind and body, as they grow through muddy water to bloom in the bright sunshine above. Buddhists internationally recognise the lotus as signifying the holy seat of the Buddha.
