Created using a mould made using an imprint of the original relief, this striking sculpture features an image of the head of a royal Mede, from the Apadana Palace in Persepolis, in modern Iran. The stone relief originates from the Achaemenid Persian Empire, and dates to around the 5th century BC.

The Medes were an ancient people who inhabited Media in northern Iran in the 9th-7th century BC.
