This Rosetta Stone replica bookend has been inspired by the famous Rosetta Stone design. <br> <br>The Rosetta stone was discovered in 1799 by French soldiers in the village of el-Rashid (Rosetta). By this time knowledge of the ancient Egyptian scripts had been lost for over 1,000 years. <br> <br> The stone contains a text in three different languages and scripts. The known Ancient Greek text at the bottom of the stone helped scholars decipher the Ancient Egyptian scripts ? the middle one in cursive Demotic and the top one in hieroglyphs. The grey granitoid stone is incomplete.

Exclusive to the British Museum, a single bookend in the shape of the Rosetta Stone.

This resin bookend is made in the UK.

Soldiers in Napoleon’s army discovered the Rosetta Stone in 1799 while digging the foundations of an addition to a fort near the town of el-Rashid (Rosetta), Egypt. Exhibited in the British Museum since 1802, the Rosetta Stone was the key to unlocking the ability to read and translate ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. The Stone contains the same decree in three different scripts, and scholars were able to use the Greek and Egyptian Demotic sections to decipher the ancient hieroglyphs. The text contains a decree passed by priests in 196 BC to honour King Ptolemy V for his services to Egypt.

This handsome bookend will be striking on any shelf or mantelpiece.
