Rosetta Stone bookmark (British Museum exclusive)
A metal bookmark with a design inspired by the Rosetta Stone - the star object in the British Museum.
The Rosetta stone was discovered in 1799 by French soldiers in the village of el-Rashid (Rosetta). By this time knowledge of the ancient Egyptian scripts had been lost for over 1,000 years.
The stone contains a text in three different languages and scripts. The known Ancient Greek text at the bottom of the stone helped scholars decipher the Ancient Egyptian scripts ? the middle one in cursive Demotic and the top one in hieroglyphs. The grey granitoid stone is incomplete.
Exclusive to the British Museum.
