Shabti Ornament

A shabti figure inspired by ancient Egypt and the afterlife. <br> <br> In ancient Egypt, shabti figures were 'dolls' placed in coffins with the deceased to help them pass into the afterlife. They were shown as mummified like the deceased, with their own coffin, and were inscribed with a spell to provide food for their master or mistress in the afterlife.<br> <br> This shabti doll measures 21cm tall. Shabti were funerary figurines, often human in form and regularly portrayed as mummified, which were intended to serve the deceased on their journey to the afterlife. Their roles varied from providing food to undertaking manual labour on behalf of the deceased, and were often inscribed with spells or messages for the gods.
