Shou Symbol Jade Necklace

A gorgeous necklace featuring jade beads and a Chinese shou symbol pendant.

Crafted from beads of deep green jade and gold-plated pewter, this stylish piece is finished with a gold-plated lobster clasp. 

The design of this piece has been adapted from a Chinese necklace found in the collection of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. The gold-plated pendant represents the geometric maze-like symbol of the Chinese ideogram shou, meaning ‘long life’. Traditionally the presence of such symbols was believed to have a direct influence on the life of its wearer.

The jade beads reflect the importance of the gemstones in Chinese culture. Historically, jade was valued above silver and gold, and was associated with morality, wealth and dignity.
