Exclusive to the British Museum, a greetings card inspired by a Roman marble statue of the ancient Greek goddess Aphrodite.

This card forms part of a range accompanying the British Museum exhibition Feminine power: the divine to the demonic.

The card is printed in the UK and includes an envelope. The inside of the card is blank for your message, and the card and envelope are sealed with a removable paper sticker, avoiding the need for excess plastic packaging.

The card is based on a 2nd century marble statue of the ancient Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, based on a 3rd century BC original. The statue shows the goddess standing naked with strands of hair falling from her elaborate hairstyle. Next to her, the small figure of Eros rides a dolphin which has a cuttlefish in its mouth.

Aphrodite is classically believed to have been borne from the sea as a result of the castration of Ouranos, although Homer's Iliad casts her as the daughter of Zeus and Dione. Aphrodite played key roles in many of the Greek tales, most notoriously influencing the events which sparked the ten-year Trojan war.

An enchanting souvenir of the exhibition.
