Stela of Nestjerenmaat Print
Exclusive to the British Museum, a mounted print featuring a watercolour study of an ancient Egyptian stela.
The print is part of a range accompanying the British Museum exhibition Hieroglyphs: unlocking ancient Egypt.
The image on this print is a watercolour by Alessandro Ricci (1792-1834) which is based on a round-topped sycamore wood stela which dates to around 1069-747 BC, and depicts Nestjerenmaat, chief chantress of Montru on the right, raising her hands at the god Ra-Horakhty, who is holding a was-sceptre in one hand and an ankh-sign in the other. Between the two figures are six columns of hieroglyph texts which inscribe a funerary invocation.
