Tagua Chunky Bracelet

A bracelet made from tagua nut - a vegetable ivory that is native to South America. Each bracelet is one-of-a-kind and colours vary from bracelet to bracelet - they may not be multi coloured, for example. <br> <br> The tagua tree grows in the heart of the Amazon and is also known as the Ivory Palm. It produces an extraordinary fruit, the tagua nut, which has been used for buttons, jewellery and carved objects for centuries. <br> <br> The nut is harvested and then left to dry for three years. Once it is harvested it is cut into manageable pieces then polished, shaped and coloured with natural dyes. <br> <br> This bracelet is made by Rainstick - a fairtrade initiative based in Colombia. The purchase of this nut supports the employment of nearly 35,000 indigenous people.

This elasticated bracelet comes in a variety of multicolour and block colour styles, and one will be selected at random on each order.

Native to South America, tagua nut is also named ‘vegetable ivory’ due to its hard off-white surface, and is often used to make jewellery, buttons and carved ornaments. Once harvested, the nut is dried for three years before being shaped, polished and coloured with natural dyes.

Made in Colombia by the fairtrade initiative, Rainstick, each purchase of this piece supports the employment of nearly 35,000 indigenous people.
