This book looks into the findings that were discovered in excavations for the Egyptian Exploration Fund in 1866. It considers the relationship between Egypt and Archaic Greece from the seventh century BC down to the to the fifth, through a re-assessment of the site of ancient Daphnae (now known as Tell Dafana) in the Nile Delta of Egypt.

Francois Leclere was the primary Research Curator on the project Egyptian-Greek Relations at Daphnae (Nile Delta), conducted by the Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan. He was responsible for the curation, research and publication of the finds from the excavations from the site of Tell Dafana in 1886. Jeffrey Spencer, formerly Deputy Keeper of the Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan at the British Museum, has directed fieldwork at various sites in Egypt over the last 35 years. Since 1990 his special focus of interest has been concentrated on the archaeology of the Nile Delta, where he directed twenty seasons of excavation at the city-site of Tell El-Balamun.
