The watercolour shows a mother and daughter admiring the statue of Demeter in the British Museum Mausoleum room as it appeared between 1869-1884. The room housed the sculptures recovered from the excavations of the Mausoleum of Halicarnasus, as well as the pieces found at the sanctuary of Demeter and Persephone at Cnidus in 1858.
