Exclusive

Exclusive to the British Museum, a greetings card based on Lucas Cranach the Elder’s The Fall of Man (c.1500-1515).

This card forms part of a range accompanying the British Museum exhibition Feminine power: the divine to the demonic.

The card is printed in the UK and includes an envelope. The inside of the card is blank for your message, and the card and envelope are sealed with a removable paper sticker, avoiding the need for excess plastic packaging.

This card’s image is based on a 16th century German woodcut by Lucas Cranach the Elder, which shows Eve handing an apple to Adam in the Garden of Eden, while the serpent whispers in Eve’s ear. It became common in European art from around the 13th century to portray the serpent as female, which supported the Christian theological tradition which placed the blame for the Fall squarely with Eve, and therefore women in general.

An ideal gift for an art lover.
