Please allow up to four weeks for delivery.</strong> <br /> <br />A hand-cast and hand-painted sculpture based on The Franks Casket on display in the British Museum.</p> <p><br /> The Franks Casket, also known as the Auzon casket, is a rectangular Anglo-Saxon casket which is hand-carved from whalebone and dated to the 8th century. <br /> <br /> This reproduction, cast in resin and painted by hand, has been inspired by the original and developed with the guidance of leading experts to present a complete version of how this magnificent piece could have looked. The replica is exactly the same size as the original: 23cm (length) x 19cm (width) x 13cm (height). <br /> <br /> The original box was richly carved on the sides and lid in high relief with a range of scenes and accompanying texts in both the runic and Roman alphabets, and in both Old English and Latin. The box shows scenes from Roman, Jewish, Christian and Germanic tradition. <br /> <br /> The replica is handmade and painted in the UK by the British sculptor Andrew Lilley exclusively for the Museum. <br /> </p>

This extraordinary resin replica has been made and hand-painted in the UK, and has been developed with guidance from leading experts to present a complete version of how the magnificent artefact could have looked. The piece is finished with a marble base, and has been produced to the scale of the original.

The Franks Casket, also known as the Auzon Casket, is an 8^th century rectangular Anglo-Saxon box which is crafted from intricately carved whale bone. Although many of the original faces of the box have been removed and replaced, the replicated carvings show scenes from Roman, Jewish, Christian and Germanic tradition, including the Adoration of the Magi and the story of Romulus and Remus, alongside texts in Latin and Old English.
