The Norwegian artist, Edvard Munch (1863-1944) is famous for his haunting images of raw human emotion, from love and desire to jealousy, anxiety and death, which he referred to as ‘the frieze of life’.

Munch first painted and displayed The Scream in 1893. Two years later, he made a lithograph based on this work. It has become a universal symbol of anxiety and is among Munch’s most memorable works.
