Tōkaidō Tea Cups, Set of 4

A ceramic teacup set inspired by the Japanese culture. <br> <br> Each cup features a design based on a series of iconic landscape prints by Japanese artists Katsushika Hokusai (1760 -1849) and Utagawa Hiroshige (1797- 1858).

Tea-drinking is a core part of Japanese culture, and green tea is often served in tall handle-less cups. This set of cups show iconic landscape prints from Katsushika Hokusai’s 36 Views of Mount Fuji (1830-1832) and Utagawa Hiroshige’s The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō (1833-1834).

The British Museum houses several woodblock prints by both Hokusai and Hiroshige, most famously Hokusai's The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, which is represented on one of the cups in this set.
