Tōkaidō Tea Cups, Set of 4
A set of four ceramic Japanese tea cups featuring woodblock prints by Hokusai and Hiroshige.
Tea-drinking is a core part of Japanese culture, and green tea is often served in tall handle-less cups. This set of cups show iconic landscape prints from Katsushika Hokusai’s 36 Views of Mount Fuji (1830-1832) and Utagawa Hiroshige’s The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō (1833-1834).
The British Museum houses several woodblock prints by both Hokusai and Hiroshige, most famously Hokusai's The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, which is represented on one of the cups in this set.
A wonderful gift inspired by Japanese art and culture.
