Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849) has enjoyed a strong international reputation since the Japonisme era of the 1870s and is considered by many to be Japan’s greatest artist.

This selection of 10 postcards, drawn from the collections of the British Museum, features the eight prints that make up Hokusai’s series Tour of Waterfalls in Various Provinces. It was the first ukiyo-e series to approach the theme of falling water and Hokusai chose to paint each one from a unique perspective.
