An ornamental statue of the ancient Egyptian goddess Isis.

This ornament is part of a range accompanying the British Museum exhibition Hieroglyphs: unlocking ancient Egypt.

This beautiful statue is made in Egypt, and features gold-coloured details on the goddess’ wings, headdress, wig and the base of the ornament.

The divine wife of Osiris, god of the afterlife, and mother of Horus, god of the sky, the goddess Isis is closely linked with motherhood, rebirth and royal power. In this ornament, she is wearing the headdress of the goddess Hathor, a sun disc in between cow horns, her outstretched wings representing the far reach of her protective powers.

In mythology, Osiris was killed and dismembered by his jealous brother Set, who scattered the fourteen parts of his body throughout Egypt. While mourning for her husband, Isis tracked down each of the parts, save one, and resurrected Osiris long enough to conceive Horus.

A gorgeous home ornament celebrating the ancient Egyptian culture.
