The ink drawing depicts the Buddhist monk Xuanzang walking with the Monkey King Sun Wukong, who appear together in the novel Journey to the West. The inscription reads "Xuanzang / Sun Wukong protected the Buddhist scriptures / He went to India and brought back the Great Perfection of Wisdom sutra".
